Claiming your Covid Deferrals
If you plan to run in 2023 or 2024, you MUST claim your deferral and register prior to the close of registration or the race selling out. You are not guaranteed a spot. If you plan to use your deferral in 2023 or 2024 you need do nothing at this time, but you will need to claim the deferral and register in the year you plan to run. To claim your deferral:
To use your deferral to enter the 2023 or 2024 race, go to your RunSignUp account and find your deferral under myRaces, select the race, and complete the registration process.
If you do not have a RunSignUp account, you can create one using the email address you used to register initially.

COVID - Free Deferral Expiration
In March 2020, at the onset of the Covid pandemic, we made the difficult decision to postpone the race that year. We then offered anyone who registered a free deferral for the race in 2021, 2022, or 2023. In April 2021, recognizing that the world had yet to return to normal, we extended our free deferral window to 2024.
Please note that there will be a $50 deferral fee for anyone choosing to defer their 2023 race entry to 2024. This $50 fee will apply to ALL deferrals, including those made during the pandemic, starting with registrations for the 2025 event.
DEFERRALS For The Current Race Year
The deferral window is open between April 1 and April 30. To defer your entry, please email deferral@buffalomarathon.org and include your full name and email you registered with.
ChangING EVENTS
Prior to May 1 of any given year, you may log on to your RunSignUp account and change races at no charge provided the race is not sold out. If you change to a more expensive race, you will be charged the difference; there are no refunds when changing to a less expensive race.
For example, if you registered for the full marathon in September for $80 and choose to change to the half in January you would be charged the difference, which in this example would be $10 plus processing costs.

Transfers
Prior to May 1 of any given year, you may log on to your RunSignUp account and transfer your entry to another athlete. This is the only approved transfer process and ensures athletes are properly accounted for in the appropriate age groups, as well as properly registered in the event of a medical emergency where they may become unable to communicate with first responders. Please note that giving or selling your bib outside this approved transfer process will result in you being banned from the race for life.
